Your First Visit

We want your first visit to be as comfortable as possible! So we’ve answered some of the most common questions we hear from first time clients. If you have any other questions or concern please reach out to let us know.

When Should I Arrive?

Arrive to your appointment 10 minutes early so that we can discuss your needs and start your appointment right on time. There is free and metered street parking nearby. Please keep in mind we are located in a wellness center, and there are many suites inside. Please call or text when you arrive, and we will meet you at the bright orange door for your first visit. We are also conveniently located next to Equator Coffee and Whole foods.

In the advent of a busy schedule, we might not be able to see you earlier than 10 minutes to your plan start time. Please keep this in mind when you arrive.

Our number is: 510 - 214 - 3562

What Should I wear to my appointment?

You should wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment. This will allow us to perform some over the clothes assessment before beginning our treatment.

Will I Be Sore?

Soreness the next couple days is common, depending on how deep we work. The soreness is a good thing, think of massage as workout for your muscles.

However, if this is a concern for you, please let your practitioner know so that we can decrease the chances of soreness the next day by working with lighter pressure.

If you are an athlete, checkout our guide (here) to learn the best time in your competition & training cycles to book a massage.

What is the intake form I received via email?

Our intake form is a series of short questions so that we can better understand your situation and why your here. It will also let us know if there are any reasons you should not receive massage or if there are any parts of your body that need to be avoided. There is also a liability form that each client needs to sign prior to their treatment.

How do I get there?

We are located by Lake Merritt, at 230 Grand Ave. We are just up the street from Whole Foods, and across the street from Fairyland. When you arrive, call or text our number and we will personally come to the door to walk you up. Our building is filled with many suites, and to avoid confusion we like to meet in the front.

What will my massage feel like?

Every session we offer at Life in Motion Bodywork is unique to the client. When you come in we will discuss why you booked with us and determine which modalities will help you the most. You can also let us know if there are certain modalities you would like us to incorporate into your session. Some things you might experience during your visit include:

  • Clinical Deep Tissue & Assessment

  • Trigger Point

  • Graston Technique (IASTM Massage, by request only)

  • Myofascial Cupping (By request only)

  • Shiatsu

  • Passive Stretching

  • Acupressure

  • Swedish

  • Aromatherapy &/or Heat Therapy

  • Myofascial Release

When should i book my next massage?

Every client and situation is different. For clients looking to get therapeutic relief, treatment is usually more frequent at the beginning. There are conditions which can completely resolve and negate the need for another session. There are also pain conditions that require more regular, long term work.

Athlete’s especially benefit from regular work. Massage can prevent certain injuries, increase flexibility, and performance.

We love results oriented work, and are strong believers in the benefits of regular massage, which is why we offer a few discounts to those who come regularly—you can learn about them here.
